Bone Grafting
Rebuilding jaw bone volume so an implant can be placed in the correct position, not merely where bone remains.
- Duration
- 45 to 90 minutes; healing 4 to 6 months
- Recovery
- Swelling for three to five days; soft diet for two weeks
- Anaesthetic
- Local anaesthetic; sedation available
Bone Grafting
Bone narrows after a tooth is lost. Grafting restores enough width or height for the implant to be placed where the crown needs to sit — which is what determines whether the final tooth looks and functions correctly.
Placing an implant into insufficient bone forces a compromise: an angled crown, a visible metal margin or a fixture too close to the outer plate. Grafting removes that compromise.
Benefits
- Implant placed in the prosthetically correct position
- Supports the gum contour around the final crown
- Often carried out at the same time as the extraction
- Biocompatible graft materials with documented outcomes
- Avoids visible defects in the smile zone
The procedure
- 01 Cone-beam assessment of the defect
- 02 Selection of graft material and membrane
- 03 Surgical access and site preparation
- 04 Graft placement and membrane fixation
- 05 Tension-free closure and suturing
- 06 Healing period of four to six months before implant placement
Technology
Xenograft and allograft materials, resorbable collagen membranes and piezoelectric bone surgery.
Aftercare
Do not wear a removable denture over a fresh graft site unless we have specifically adjusted it — pressure is the most common cause of graft failure.

In our patients’ words
What convinced me was the mock-up. I walked around with the trial teeth for two days before anything was cut, and I could change the shape twice. The final result is exactly what I approved, not a surprise.

I had worn an upper denture for eleven years. The provisional bridge went in the same afternoon as the surgery. Six months later I ate a steak for the first time since 2013.

I live in Moscow and flew in twice in fourteen months. Everything else was photographs through the app. Dr Volkova replied to my questions herself, not through an assistant.
